Other Declarations

In addition to the SGML declaration described in the preceding section and the document type declaration by which one declares the tags to be used in an encoding, it is often desirable to make other declarations describing encoding practice and the like.

Such declarations are made in the TEI encoding declarations area, which forms part of the file header, along with bibliographic information about the encoding and about the text(s) encoded. From the point of view of SGML and the SGML processor, such declarations are part of the SGML document; from the point of view of a processing program, such declarations form part of the document header.
