This document is undergoing constant revision, as a consequence of ongoing work within the MASTER Project and in response to public comment and criticism. Please do not use or reference this document without first checking that you have the most recent version. Versions of this document are identified by date and version number, given at the end of the table of contents.
The canonical home for the HTML version of this documentation is http://www.hcu.ox.ac.uk/TEI/Master/Reference/. The same document is also available in Adobe's Portable Document Format, for easier printing from the URL http://www.hcu.ox.ac.uk/TEI/Master/Reference/master.pdf. The same website includes links to the DTD described here and sample documents using it.
This document is maintained in XML, using a partial implementation of the TEI ODD2 system designed by Michael Sperberg-McQueen and Lou Burnard. The XML source of the whole manual is available from http://www.hcu.ox.ac.uk/TEI/Master/Reference/Source/. The HTML and PDF versions are generated from the XML source, as are the DTD fragments which make up the DTD itself (see further section 3 Building the TEI DTD for Manuscript Description).
