First | Previous TEI meets Unicode 15

Resolutions

  • In the context of using TEI with XML and Unicode, the current WSD mechanism is not required anymore and should be abandoned.
  • To allow for the expression of modified semantics of existing characters and additional characters or glyph variants, a new mechanism is required. It should allow for flexible, extensible expression of arbitrary character properties.
  • Markup constructs for the expression of glyph variants should be introduced. They should not assume a one to one mapping of glyphs to characters. This is not intended to become a glyph description language.
  • The identification of languages should be handled separately from identifying the writing system, script and orthography.
  • The mechanism needs to be processable with a transformation language, for example XSL.
  • No backward compatibility with SGML in P5, freeze that in P4.
  • Define the scope of the TEI Guidelines more clearly.
  • Consider a liaison with Unicode Consortium.
  • Reduce the number of possibilities to do certain things. Architectural decisions need to be made, not left open.
