- In the context of using TEI with XML
and Unicode, the current WSD mechanism is not required
anymore and should be abandoned.
- To allow for the expression of modified semantics of
existing characters and additional characters or glyph
variants, a new mechanism is required. It
should allow for flexible, extensible expression of
arbitrary character properties.
- Markup constructs for the expression of glyph variants
should be introduced. They should not assume a one to one
mapping of glyphs to characters. This is not intended to
become a glyph description language.
- The identification of languages should be handled
separately from identifying the writing system, script and
orthography.
- The mechanism needs to be processable with a
transformation language, for example XSL.
- No backward compatibility with SGML in P5, freeze that
in P4.
- Define the scope of the TEI Guidelines more clearly.
- Consider a liaison with Unicode Consortium.
- Reduce the number of possibilities to do certain
things. Architectural decisions need to be made, not left
open.
