TEI and XML schemas
- We are no longer at the fringe of computer applications development, but much closer to the center
- XML applications and tools will continue to proliferate
(benefits for TEI)
- But not all tools and architectures will understand validation, or will validate the same way for the same reasons.
- TEI needs to take a strong approach to validation (as it always has)
- ..but a gentle approach to validation means and methods in detail
- DTD, W3C XML Schema, RelaxNG, Schematron, stylesheet- or (horrors!) application-driven, all should be allowed / encouraged
- we should be “ecumenical” vis-a-vis the form of validation, as long as it's done and documented appropriately
- we need to address interchange requirements directly rather than pretending a religion of validation is enough
- we can become (as we already are) experts in schema technologies
- Son of ODD is important
- both for XML TEI in its various flavors and architectures
- and for TEI Beyond XML...
