Training: Strategies
- TEI should not try to monopolize, compete over or “own” XML
- e.g. if a CS dept or technical writing program teaches XML w/ DocBook --- cool!
- The curious and technically-minded will always get under the covers somehow anyway
... and we want (need) them to ...
- writing your own DTD(s) from scratch is a good way to learn to appreciate the strengths and virtues of TEI
- We should piggyback off other programs / resources
- Teaching XML shouldn't be exclusively the job of humanities or soft-money programs who are already strapped
- So Humanities Computing community needs to build bridges, cross over more
... we're the poor visitor at the party with the best stories ... our XML can be strange and different from theirs (good
data!)
