Primary resource: Library of Congress Name Authority File at DRA
- Choose Author search to search for author's name, or Subject search to search for personal names apart from authors, or geographic names.
- Carry out your search, and then choose the link marked (about) next to the entry you retrieve.
- The term marked Heading: is the authoritative form of the name which you should use.
If this fails, then look at the MASTER authority lists
If all else fails, create your own entry:

- Fill in search form, and click on Search.
- When you reach the record you want, click on the
tab marked Full Record.
- If there is a field listed marked Uniform Title, use this, omitting the opening and closing "[" and "]" brackets, and also omitting the phrase "[from old catalog]" if present.
- If there is NO field listed marked Uniform Title, use the field marked Main Title:, omitting any opening definite or indefinite articles (in any language).
